3D on D3

Happy 3D Printing Day! Additive manufacturing is one of the leading edge technologies for good reason. It allows for customization, personalization, and intricacy in each and every item created. It is also accessible to industry and consumers alike. For example, GE makes fuel nozzles for airplanes via additive manufacturing. Or, you can walk into Staples (albeit in the Netherlands) and print out your uploaded 3D design. Today’s contest, sponsored by GE, asks the public to tweet for one of 10 3D-printed gifts designed by celebrity teams using #3DPrintMyGift. The options range from a pen-holder, to an iPhone speaker, to charms. The website, http://3dprintmygift.tumblr.com/, has great videos that succinctly sum up what 3D printing is and how it may be used in the future in health care and everyday life. If you are more interested in the technical side, check out http://www.MTAdditive.com’s Technical Briefs.
