VIDEO: At Oak Ridge National Lab, 3D Printed Cars are Just the Beginning

How much do you really know about our national lab system? The U.S. Department of Energy currently runs 17 national laboratories, each dedicated to advancing science and technology with the goal of furthering the DoE mission. But these labs are also important hubs of R&D that work with private businesses to develop technologies and solutions for a variety of applications – including advanced manufacturing.

Dr. Lonnie Love is a Group Leader at the Manufacturing Demonstration Facility that’s part of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, located in Knoxville, Tenn. ORNL was a vital partner in helping to build Strati, the world’s first 3D printed car, and recently also completed a build of a 3D printed Shelby Cobra, earning them a visit from President Obama and Vice President Biden.

Dr. Love recently sat down for an interview on The MFG Advocate, telling us about what’s next for 3D printing and other technologies that will have an impact on manufacturing’s future.
