Celebrate #MFGDay – Oct. 7

More than 115,000 visitors converged at IMTS – The International Manufacturing Technology Show 2016 at McCormick Place in Chicago. AMT is a Manufacturing (MFG) Day supporter, and the upcoming event received its share of attention during the show. A massive banner hung in the main concourse of the convention center and the opening keynote speaker, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker included her strong support of the event in her opening speech.

mfgday-bannerOctober 7 is MFG Day, an annual celebration of modern American manufacturing and the great career paths it offers. AMT encourages manufacturers to join the movement and show the next generation workforce what it means to be a manufacturer.

Today’s modern manufacturing workplaces are a far cry from the images in the minds of most students, parents and educators. MFG Day events such as open houses, community forums, and facility tours are a great way to change those misperceptions and connect those making career choices with the job creators. As a MFG DAY video asks: “Why would students choose manufacturing if they’ve never even been exposed to it?”

The MFG Day website is loaded with resources to help the public find an MFG event and help manufactures plan an event. Your event can range from modest to bold, anything from inviting staff family and friends to your facility to devoting an entire day to welcoming students, elected officials and other community members. No matter the scale, participation is critical to getting the message out about advanced manufacturing careers!

These experiences do matter. A recent study found that after participating in MFG Day events, 81 percent of students and 91 percent of educators were more convinced that manufacturing provides careers that are interesting and rewarding.

We want to know how you are celebrating MFG Day. Post your photos on Twitter and Instagram and tag them with #MFGDay. We can’t wait to see your celebration!
